Disney’s Frozen: Olaf Prototypes
I was asked by Disney Theatrical Productions to come up with some ideas and construct a few prototypes for the Frozen Broadway musical. Along with fellow puppet builders, Sean & Patrick Johnson, we came up with a bunch of interesting concepts. To learn more, check out the behind-the-scenes photos below, and consider contacting me to help bring your puppet project to life!
Designs I did for a collapsible, color changing Olaf. As he melted he would go from blue to orange.
He was made with Chinese lanterns & was able to collapse so far that his tooth touched the ground.
His body assembled & the lights turned on.
His head was made of soft foam and covered with sequined spandex. His nose was an icicle.
Finished puppet with me in winter garb.
Design I did for Break-Apart Olaf: a 4-piece puppet that would be controlled by 4 performers for specific scenes.
Drawing I did demonstrating Break-Apart Olaf.
A model I sculpted as a proof of concept to show how Olaf could be performed & break apart.
Toy Olaf Design: A version of this wound up in the show.
